The best travel companion — but not, for me, a note-taking tool.
I'm an Apple fan — I've tried all the iPads over the years. I currently have an iPad Pro 13" for personal use, no keyboard, no work apps, and it stays away from the office, and an iPad Pro 11" for work, complete with a Bluetooth keyboard, Magic Keyboard, and Apple Pencil.
Its primary use is on-the-go compute — it's the best travel companion, moving from binge-watching YouTube on the flight to light work tasks at the destination. I say light not because it isn't capable, but there are always some compromises to how it works that mean I need to consider whether to take my MacBook on the trip or not.
Its real difference is in grabbing the Apple Pencil, opening FreeForm, and brain dumping — letting your mind empty in whatever flow works for you. I tend to work in vast spider diagrams and then consolidate to actions and next steps, but whatever works for you, that's the power of it.
I've tried this for note-taking — pretty much every tool you can use. They're just too powerful, and together with the vast array of apps available, there are just too many distractions for everyday note-taking use.
I've tried focus modes on the iPad, however you need to remove the tools that feature on every mode from the bottom toolbar, and that just compromises either the focus or the normal use.
Paperlike is worth the investment. I'm a convert.
